Our Syllabus

Swan River Ballet is proud to offer the very best syllabus for each dance style.

The Royal Academy of Dance

With over 13,000 members spread across 89 countries, the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is one of the largest and most influential dance education and training organisations in the world. Established in 1920, to improve standards and re-invigorate dance training initially within the UK, the Academy helps and encourages its teachers to perfect their teaching skills and pass on this knowledge to their students.

The RAD offers an internationally recognised portfolio of examinations and assessments designed to encourage, motivate and reward students of all ages and abilities, outlining a progressive structure for learning and achievement in dance. The examination syllabus is taught to more than a quarter of a million students worldwide.

RAD Ballet Exams are held at Hamilton House, every year in Term 4. Our Ballet Holiday Program is conducted in the second week of the September/October school holidays. Please keep this in mind if your child is registered for an exam. The Holiday Program should be attended by all those participating in the exam session. Asia Pacific Dance Associations

The Asia Pacific Dance Association (APDA) is at the forefront of international dance education. Our Jazz & Contemporary Teacher Ms Avie, will be coordinating the Jazz Addict Syllabus for all Jazz classes and Lucidty for the Contemporary Classes. This syllabus was chosen as it provides each student with solid performance-based technical training, and a platform to create, achieve and grow as a dancer and artist. Each level allows students to experience different modern styles of dance including Lyrical or Contemporary, Musical Theatre, and Modern Jazz.

Examinations are usually held each year in July/August at Hamilton House. Although not compulsory to do exams, Swan River Ballet will be encouraging student to take part, as it is another opportunity for performance with many learning outcomes for students. We also offer a holiday program in the second week of the school holidays. Please keep this in mind when planning holidays. Acro Dance

Swan River Ballet is also proud to offer Acro Dance – a style of dance that combines classical technique with precise acrobatic elements such as rolls, tumbles, handstands and flips. Students will learn skills to increase flexibility, balance, strength, muscle control, discipline and concentration. There will be a focus on correct technique in a controlled environment so that students can perform safely on any surface without negative effects to the body. While class levels will be based on age, with no experience necessary, to get the best out of the classes we recommend that students attend one or more dance classes to assist in their progress. Our aim is to improve student’s core and body strength, flexibility and confidence that will then assist them in all styles of dance.
